- I Side With: Students will take the I Side With quiz to see if how their political ideologies align with the current presidential candidates. Go to canvass and record and explain your side.
- Political Parties: Students will take notes about the establishment and purpose of political parties in the United States
- WebQuest: Worksheets are on Canvass: Students will complete a WebQuest information from the following sources-
- Part I: Students will examine the terminology and ideologies associated with political parties. Look at the following websites and compare and contrast the basic ideologies of the Democrats and Republicans.(Remember these are generalizations, beliefs can vary from person to person even within a party. You have to look at individual issues and determine what you believe and what issues are important to you!)
- PART II: Answer questions based on your I Side With quiz results from today.

1. Students will examine the role of the media and techniques used the campaigning process. The class will examine commercials from the The Living Room Candidate and complete the activity.
2. Analyzing the candidates; Now it's your turn to analyze the past presidential candidates:
With a partner, find two commercials put out by Hilary Clinton and two commercials put out by Donald Trump OR you can find an commercials by Roy Cooper or Pat McCrory from the past election.
For each commercial:
1. Give the link where you found the ad.
2. Determine which propaganda technique(s) were used in the advertisement.
3. Give an explanation using specific examples from the commercial. How does the commercial reflect the propaganda technique?
4. How do these ads (and the media in general) influence the American politics and public opinion?
Note***You need to find 4 different techniques. They can't all be fear, bandwagon etc. You may have to do some exploring to find ads that reflect different techniques!
